Albert Thurgood was football’s first superstar, the first high flyer and a man who had kicks measured at over 100 yards. Captain of the School, he went to Essendon starred in five premierships and became the first player to kick 50 goals in a season. He was three times Champion of the Colony and in one game kicked 12 of Essendon’s 14 goals. In 1996, sixty nine years after he was killed in a car accident, Albert “The Great” was honoured as an inaugural member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
