David Smorgon The driving force behind the “Western Bulldogs” , David Smorgon has instilled his strong business ethic into a football club that was struggling for survival. As president since 1996 he has driven his Bulldogs back up the ladder and with the redevelopment of the Whitten Oval back into financial stability.
A lawyer and for 25 years a senior executive and Director of Smorgon Consolidated, Australia’s largest family business with assets over one billion dollars, he has channelled his energy into football and community. He is Governor of the Sony Foundation, a non-profit charitable organisation assisting Australia’s youth and in 2000, was honoured with an Order of Australia for his contribution to the Western Bulldogs, and to the community through health, education and social welfare organisations.
