Fundraising at Brighton Grammar School :

When a boy joins Brighton Grammar School both he and his parents are joining a 'giving' School. The students of today are the beneficiaries of the generosity of yesterday and yesteryear.

To be a leading boys' school, a school that offers the very best opportunity for every boy, takes money. To be a leading school well into the future takes planning (and money).

There is an expectation that every family enrolled in the School, as well as past students and their parents, will support the various fundraising programs in the School.

There are three main streams of fundraising managed by the Development Office

1. The Annual Giving program:

Designed to meet the short term needs of the School.  The 2007 Annual Giving Campaign riased $110,000 to re-equip the Weights and Aerobic Room in the School gym.  The 2008 and 2009 Annual Giving Campaigns supported the redevelopment of the School ovals.

2. Major Capital (Building) Appeals :

The income generated by school fees does not cover the sort of investment necessary to build the sort of learning facilities expected in a school such as BGS.  Therefore, from time to time the BGS community is asked to support major fundraising campaigns that will help fund infra-structure that will ultimately support the strategic priorities of the School.

In mid 2008, we launched  a $1 million campaign to redevelop the three School ovals.  This project focuses on water and energy conservation for the future.

Donations made in support of capital appeals are often pledged over more than one financial year and are fully tax deductible.

3. Building the Brighton Grammar School Endowment Fund (primarily through Bequests and legacies) :

The Council of Brighton Grammar School is determined to protect the future of Brighton Grammar School from the fluctuations of government funding by building the Brighton Grammar Endowment Fund. It is our goal that the fund will grow by $10 million over the next decade.

The Capital of the BGS Endowment Fund will always remain intact and only the interest earned will be used to assist the School develop and grow.

All general purpose Bequests made to Brighton Grammar School are invested in the BGS Endowment Fund. Bequests made for a specific purpose are allocated according to the wishes of the donor.
