BGS wins Australian Government Award!

Brighton Grammar School and Firbank Grammar School’s community education program, Sh@re Community Campus, has won a prestigious Australian Government Award for Teaching Excellence in the School and Community category – Highly Commended National Achievement.
The award recognises the Schools’ commitment in establishing a flourishing community education centre which offers a wide range of high quality educational and lifestyles courses for parents, students and the wider community from all over Melbourne.
Brighton Grammar School and Firbank Grammar School’s achievement was announced at a ceremony held in the Great Hall of Parliament House, Canberra, last week when Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister, Julia Gillard, presented the Director of Community Education, John Phillips, with the Schools’ Award Certificates and a cheque for $15,000. The prize money will be used to further develop the programs the schools offer to the community.
“A strong sense of community has always existed at our schools and we are delighted that our efforts to strengthen our sense of community by welcoming members of the wider Bayside community to join with our own community have been have been recognised by the awarding of this prestigious award,” John Phillips says. ‘The Schools have outstanding facilities and our Sh@re Community Campus project has provided us with the framework to share these facilities with the community.”
