Michael
Urwin was appointed as Headmaster of Brighton Grammar School in 1996. He was
educated at Camberwell Grammar School and graduated from the University of Melbourne with an Honours Arts Degree,
majoring in Chinese.
Michael
commenced his teaching career at Camberwell
Grammar School, teaching
Chinese and Mathematics. In 1982 he was awarded one of the first Victorian
Government International Teaching Fellowships to China. In 1991 he was appointed as
Deputy Headmaster of Brisbane Grammar School, and in 1996 came to Brighton Grammar School.
Michael
has served on a number of Drug Education Committees at both state and national
level. He has been a Member of the Committee of Management of the Australian
Anglican Schools' Network, and Chair of the Victorian Branch of the Association
of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia. He is currently a
Trustee of the International Boys' Schools' Coalition.
Michael's
son, David, completed his VCE at Brighton
Grammar School in 2006, and is now
studying at Melbourne
University.
