Parents of boys in the Junior School are invited to participate in a full range of activities.
Through our School Family Resource Bank parents are invited to register their particular interests, expertise or hobbies and be available to share these with the boys.
Mothers and some fathers assist with our Reading Programs and Lower Primary Science Rotations. Other areas where parents help include the design and making of costumes, the supervision of sporting teams, and accompanying the boys on excursions and camps.
Our Junior Parents’ Group organises a variety of parent and family functions during the year, some of which raise funds to enrich the learning of our boys.
Our International Parents Support Group provides a welcoming and supportive network for our international parents, many of whom are on two, three or four year work assignments.
At the Early Learning Centre, some of the activities where fathers can be engaged with the schooling of their sons include:
- Fathers Morning
- Lower Primary Father and Son Breakfast
- Upper Primary Father and Son Evening
- Father and Son Technology Evening
- Junior School Fathers’ Dinner
Through their fundraising, the boys of the Junior School support The Baraka School in Kibera, a shanty town on the outskirts of Nairobi in Kenya. Over the past five years, funds raised by our boys have enabled much of The Baraka School to be rebuilt and a wide range of educational resources to be purchased.
Other Junior School fundraising has supported Juvenile Diabetes, the MS Readathon, the Cancer Council and Legacy.
On three occasions during the year, Junior School families donate food items to our ‘Ute Full of Food’ Appeal, which distributes food supplies to underprivileged families around Melbourne.
Throughout the year, the Sh@re Community program offers a wide range of after school and evening child and adult activities at the Junior School campus. These activities are available to our boys as well as generally to girls and boys in the local community.
