Overview

At Brighton Grammar we welcome applications for scholarships from talented boys who believe they can make a positive contribution to the BGS community. 

Brighton Grammar School awards a limited number of Academic and General Excellence Scholarships to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and success in several fields of endeavour related to school life. The number of Scholarships awarded each year is dependent upon the quality of the applicants and the availability of places.

Brighton Grammar School's Academic Scholarship examinations are conducted in the year prior to entry. 

Scholarships are also offered in the specialist area of Music and Choral Scholarships for the St. Andrews Church Choir.

Scholarships covering partial fees will be offered. Tenures vary, but generally holders are expected to complete their secondary education at Brighton Grammar, to maintain a high standard of academic achievement, and to contribute positively and enthusiastically to school life. Each Scholarship holder's progress in the School and contribution to school life is reviewed annually.

A Scholarship may be withdrawn if the Headmaster is not satisfied with the diligence or conduct of the holder. Failure to pay fees may also lead to withdrawal. 

Scholarships do not cover the cost of books, stationery or uniforms. Nor do they cover consolidated charges and discretionary charges such as overseas trips. 

No boy may hold more than one Scholarship. 

Scholarships Available for Entry to the School in 2014

A. Academic

Boys entering Years 4 to 9 inclusive. Please click here to apply. Applications close on Friday 15 February, 2013. The examination date is Saturday 23 February, 2013.  In 2014 

B. Scholarships for entry into Year 10, 2014

For this year only an exciting opportunity exists. Brighton Grammar School is offering 10, 3-year Academic Scholarships for academically strong boys entering Year 10 in 2014

Applications close at 12.00 noon on Friday 14 June with testing on the morning of Saturday 15 June.  Please click here to register and include your name, your son's name, contact details and your son's current school.  Please note that there is a $40 application fee.

C. Music Scholarships

Boys entering Years 5 to 9 inclusive - for players of Orchestral Strings, French Horn, Lower Bass and advanced pianists who wish to study the Organ. Click here to download an application form. Applications close on Monday 18 February, 2013. The audition and testing date will be on Monday 25 February 2013. 

D. St. Andrew's Church Choir Scholarships

Boys entering Years 4 to 6 inclusive. The audition and testing date is Wednesday 27 February 2013. Applications close Thursday 14 February, 2013. Click here to download an application form. Download further information.

E. General Excellence Scholarships

Boys entering Years 7 to 11 inclusive. Interviews will be conducted in the Senior School Meeting Room on Saturday 11 May, 2013.

Current students of Brighton Grammar School are not eligible for this Scholarship. Applications close Wednesday 1 May, 2013. Download the Application Form.  

F. The Mark John Comport Scholarship

This Scholarship is available for a boy with a physical disability to enter our Junior School, is means tested and tenable until the end of Year 12.

G. The John Gray Scholarship

The John Gray Scholarship, awarded to boys entering Year 8 or Year 9, is means tested and will be awarded to boys who can demonstrate their ability to embrace the culture and spirit of Brighton Grammar School and their willingness to benefit from a Brighton Grammar School education.
