Counselling

Why do we have School Psychologists and Counsellors at BGS?

Young people thrive when they feel safe and supported. Our role is to help them achieve their best – academically, psychologically, socially and emotionally.

Our Psychology team

The BGS Counselling Department has registered Psychologists and Counsellors who specialise in working with children, adolescents and their families to identify and address educational, behavioural, emotional, psychological, social and developmental concerns. The Counselling team works in partnership with students, parents, teachers and school administrators to achieve the most beneficial outcome for the boys.

What sort of support do we offer?

Specialty areas of interest include: behaviour management; stress and anxiety; ADD/ADHD; depression; Autism Spectrum Disorders; bullying; grief & loss; social skills; emotional regulation; family relationships; transition; internet/gaming addiction; sexuality; and critical incident management. Various therapy techniques include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy and Mindfulness based practice.

How do you get to see one of the School Psychologists/Counsellors?

Students are referred to the Counselling Department by parents, teachers – or by their own request. Participation in psychological services at BGS is voluntary and never mandatory.

What if more support is needed?

Sometimes the School Psychologists/Counsellors assesses that the student and/or family requires more specialised or intensive intervention than what can be offered at school and then a referral is made to an external health service provider. This might include a Paediatrician, Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologist or Family Therapist.
