Owen Dials representing Oz in inline hockey

Congratulations to Owen Dials who has taken his inline hockey skills to the land of the luau. The Year 7 is currently playing for the Team Australia Under 12’s at the 2016 AAU Junior Olympics Inline Hockey Tournament in Kapolei, Hawaii this week.  The AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) is an amateur multi-sport organisation based in the US with more than 670,000 members.

Owen plays both ice hockey and inline hockey. Although he first played inline hockey at age 10 in the Bayswater Home League, he has played ice hockey from age 3.

“I’m rapt right now,” said Owen, who earned his spot on Team Australia after impressing officials at the Inline National compeition last October. “It’s a big deal to make the team so I was pretty excited when I got the call.”

The Team Australia U12 squad will play four round-robin games this week – New Zealand on July 11, Columbia and Team Hawaii on July 12, and USA on July 13.

Owens plans to come home directly after the tournament because he’s representing Victoria in the ice hockey national championships, which are held in Melbourne this year.
