Targets in maths

With the Visible Learning framework now firmly embedded in the BGS teaching and learning process, boys in Middle School mathematics classes have been taking learning into their own hands, with some remarkable outcomes.

While it is important that teachers recognise what their students know and don’t know, nothing is more powerful than putting this information into the hands of the students themselves. After pre-testing, the boys fill out a template that gives them a clear picture of which skills they did, and didn’t, demonstrate. From this visual, they are able to identify their target areas for the topic.

This tool, used in conjunction with accessible resources such as websites, is giving the boys confidence that they can reach their potential in maths without getting lost along the way.
