From the Head of Senior School, Ray Swann
Welcome back to boys and families of Senior School. The school year has started well. Last Friday had an administrative focus, ensuring we were well prepared for lessons to commence on Monday. It was great to formally welcome back the boys in assembly; many of them having certainly grown over the summer!
Our focus this year is to continue to lift the academic standards in School. To this end, all classes have standardised and formal procedures to enable the boys to clearly see what they need to learn and achieve for each lesson. Staff are undertaking ongoing professional learning to ensure that programs are continually improved and different learners are catered for. As always, please contact the School should you have any questions about your son’s learning.
This week we also held our new Year 12 Retreat – Big Fella Camp. Set in the Alpine High Country, this leadership and planning retreat featured the boys climbing up and down Victoria’s highest peak, Mt Bogong (The Big Fella), all in one day. The boys returned tired but highly motivated, supportive and ready to work together in the year ahead. My thanks to the Deputy Head of Senior School Mr Liddle and Head of Outdoor Education Mr Barry for the fantastic program.
Target – Bayside Art and Design Graduates Exhibition
Six BGS boys’ artworks from last year’s VCE Art class have been selected for an exhibition at The Gallery at Bayside Arts and Cultural Centre. Elias Kauiers, Jack Summers, Ben Prosser, Luca Bade, Jack Kirby and Tom Noske have all had artwork selected for a group show to celebrate the skill and diversity of art and design created by some of Bayside’s most talented 2015 VCE and IB graduates. This exhibition is on now and runs until 21 February, with the official opening event taking place tonight, Thursday 4 February, from 6pm to 8pm.
