Year 8 Journey
Building on strengthsBelow is an edited version of Year 8 student Harry’s report on the Year 8 journey to Camp Stirling.
Over the last two weeks, the Year 8 cohort has gone away to camp at Mount Stirling. Our camp was five days and four nights long, with three nights in tents … and consisted of 2.5 days of hiking and 2.5 days of mountain biking.

The boys really responded well, in true BGS fashion, to the challenge aspect of the hikes and did really well as a team, improving our weaknesses and building our strengths even further. The boys, in tent groups of 2-3 people, self-catered … with recipes from bacon mac and cheese to Napoli pasta.

One day, we hiked to the famous Craig’s Hut from The Man from Snowy River. Before we started the biking, we stayed in a lodge for one night which was luxury after two nights in tents.
The mountain biking was incredible, especially when going downhill! We saw many amazing views which really made us more aware of our surroundings and how different they were from home.

I enjoyed being together as a House and also catching up again … as it was good to talk to some people who aren’t in your closest group of mates. Overall, the boys had an incredible time and feel excited for our next journey.
