Our Inspiring Hero Dylan

Last night BGS Hall of Famer Dylan Alcott OAM (OB 2008) won his seventh consecutive quad wheelchair men’s singles Australian Open title and his 12th grand slam overall, defeating up-and-coming rival Sam Schroder 6-1, 6-0.

Only the day before, Dylan also clinched his fourth consecutive quad wheelchair doubles title at the Australian Open with doubles partner and close friend Heath Davidson.

The Australian top seeds beat Briton Andy Lapthorne and American David Wagner 6-2, 3-6 [10-7] on Margaret Court Arena. The win is Dylan’s eighth major doubles crown.

Dylan also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play at all.

“We are so lucky to be playing tennis at the moment,” he said.

“We aren’t taking that opportunity for granted. I feel very grateful to be here. When other people can’t do their jobs, have lost loved ones, lost their jobs, can’t travel, are in lockdown… when you are grateful for the moment, I think you can relax.”

Congratulations Dylan. You are an inspiration to everyone.
