Secondary School (9-12)

Everyone walks their own path to success in the company of others

The culture of the Secondary School is one where we recognise and celebrate our community of excellence. Excellence in academic effort, the arts, sport and music.

But also excellence in character traits like respect, acceptance, resilience, empathy and perseverance.

Specialist academic support

Specialist academic support Never is academic dedication and development more critical than in Years 9-12. As an open-entry school, we cater for boys of all abilities by acknowledging the individual needs and differences of each boy. That said, each boy is encouraged to achieve his utmost – to reach, if not exceed, his natural potential.

Various programs offer targeted support to the boys.

  • The Syndicate Program
  • Old Boy scholars
  • Individual learning support programs

In the Secondary School, we strive to instil a culture of excellence and achievement by encouraging each boy to strive for his personal best in every endeavour.

Boys are challenged to be the best they can be. They are encouraged to push boundaries, to contribute and to become involved in a diverse range of programs.

Key to our success is the way we foster a ‘give it a go’ approach to life. Boys need to learn that is it okay to make a mistake and that you don’t need to be good at everything.

The Syndicate - it's a game changer!

The Year 12 Syndicate Program taps into coaching techniques often used in sport to improve the boys’ VCE performance.

The boys are taught the ‘rules’ of the game, and speak about sharing the load, game plans and focusing on the ultimate prize.

The brainchild of Dr Ray Swann, the collaborative nature of the Syndicate taps into proven techniques to enhance performance, such as reciprocal teaching, small-group work and team-based cooperative learning.

The Syndicate is a core element of the Year 12 program.

The ritual of Chantology

Our motto is ‘Tonantes ad meliora’ (The ones who thunder go to better things).

Whether supporting teams out on the Crowther Oval or the Year 9 boys at the start line for the Final in the Head of the River, or celebrating victory in chess, through Chantology our boys recognise that everyone walks their path to success in the company of others.
