Dr Ray Swann
Deputy Headmaster, Head of the Crowther CentreThis week we “ducked” over to the Early Learning Centre and were delighted by the energy and curiosity demonstrated by one of the ELC4 classes.
The boys were eager to share their learning, and it was wonderful to see them so engaged. We spoke to Mrs Liz Dendrinos about how the boys are learning to collaborate, work as a team, use initiative and develop independence – key skills as they prepare for the transition to Prep.
Spending time with the youngest boys in our school is a treat. They remind us to stay curious, ask questions and be lifelong learners.
As always, if there is anything specific you’d love to hear more about, please reach out to the Crowther team.

Cold Water, Clear Mind. Side by Side.

Next week is Men’s Health Week. At BGS, we know that when boys feel connected, authentic, and motivated, they’re more likely to prioritise their health and wellbeing. That’s what the +M program is all about – building a culture where the students feel connected, have each other’s backs and can grow into the best versions of themselves.
We are selling beanies as well as running the inaugural +M Plunge to raise awareness and funds for The Foundation for Positive Masculinity to continue to support boys and young men around the world.
On Wednesday 11 June, we will gather at the front of the Brighton Life Saving Club at 6.45am, and plunge into the icy waters of Port Phillip Bay, side by side.
The opposite of connection is loneliness, which can feel a bit like being out in the cold. But when you lean into challenge and step into discomfort, with your mates by your side—you’ll find strength you didn’t know you had. And no matter how cold it gets, the sun will always rise.
Stand side by side, challenge yourself to go into the cold, then celebrate the rising of the sun. Show your fellow Tonners they’re never alone.
