Deputy Headmaster, Head of the Crowther Centre

Come along with us to Canberra this week, where we spent the day hosted by the Governor General of Australia, Her Excellency Ms Sam Mostyn, to celebrate International Men’s Day.

We know that for boys and young men to thrive in today’s world, they need to learn and practice specific skills. Through the 3 pillars of our Positive Masculinity approach, we encourage them to challenge outdated (and sometimes harmful) gender stereotypes. We support them to show up as their authentic selves, build strong relationships and connections, and work towards achieving their goals. We achieve this through formal instruction, along with modeling healthy approaches to masculinity.

Boys and young men today face different challenges than we did as kids. By engaging with research, and using a strengths-based approach, we can help our boys to feel great about being a boy, while avoiding some of the more common health challenges associated with masculinity.

The Federal Government is also committed to supporting healthy masculinity, as they understand that when men are healthy and well, we all benefit. Yesterday was a terrific opportunity to share what is working well here at BGS, and collaborate with leading researchers and practitioners.

Please reach out to us at the Crowther Centre if you have any questions or areas you would like us to explore in more detail.
