A journey to F1 success

From his insight into STEM gained through involvement in the F1 in Schools program, James Mitchell (OB 2022) has pursued his dream of a career in Formula 1 motorsport.

Now based in the UK and following a successful internship, James has joined the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, working next to the Silverstone F1 circuit.

His role as an Experimental Aerodynamicist sees him assisting in the development of wind tunnel systems technology and analysing the wind tunnel data to enhance testing methodologies and drive continuous performance improvements.

James was a stalwart member of the F1 in Schools program at Brighton Grammar, led by Jamie Watson, F1 in Schools Coordinator. James’ Constellation team was crowned 2021 State Champions and then Professional Class National Champions in 2022. The team then finished in the top 20 in the World Finals.

James credits the F1 in Schools program, now known as STEM Racing, for inspiring him on his career pathway as an Aerodynamicist in the elite field of motorsport racing.
