A new approach to learning

The quality of BGS teaching staff has been affirmed with the news that our Japanese language teachers Melissa Faulkner and Shintaro Nagayama have been awarded a grant from The Macquarie University Japanese Studies Centre for Teaching Development.

Melissa (pictured above) and Shin will use the grant to develop a new Year 9 unit of work, The Art of Kendo.  It uses a new learning approach where students learn a subject and a second language concurrently.

This learning strategy encourages students to develop 21st Century skills, including the ability to think critically, be creative, to communicate and collaborate.

Our Year 9 boys will no doubt be inspired by this new unit of work beginning in Term 3, due to the initiative and drive of our language teachers.
