BGS at the Chinese Debating Championships

Chinese debating team advance to round 3

On Saturday’s over the past month, Dan (Year 9), July (Year 9), Tim (Year 11) and William (Year 11) have been involved in the 2021 Victorian High Schools Chinese Debating Championship organised by the Australian Debating Association and Chinese Language Teachers Association of Victoria.

With 16 competing schools, the competition has grown over the years, and so far the boys have progressed with wins over Westbourne Grammar and Carey Baptist Grammar.

The topics have covered ‘She marketing strategies’, ‘the Carmichael Mining Project’ and ‘the elitism of aesthetics’, challenging the students to plan and argue their positions thoughtfully.

Under continuing lockdown restrictions, the competition will move into an online format, and the next round will now take place on 21 August vs Camberwell High School. Good luck boys!
