BGS hosts Chess tournament

Brighton Grammar hosted the Chess Victoria Secondary School’s Zonal Tournament in April.

We had seven different rounds with seven different games for each participant. Overall, we had 166 players from 16 different schools competing.

Brighton Grammar qualified two teams of five people for the Chess Victoria Secondary State Championship later this year.

Brighton Grammar has another chance to qualify more people for the Chess Victoria Secondary State Championship later this term at Balwyn High, where another Secondary School tournament will occur.

We had three separate winners from three different schools, in third place came Chloe Fan from Haileybury College, and second place went to Matthew Wang from Scotch College. In first place with 7 wins and no losses or draws was Jesse Zafirakos from Balwyn High.

It was an exciting day filled with energy and suspense. Brighton Grammar was very proud to host the first Chess Victoria Secondary School Zonal tournament and we look forward to the second one at the end of this term occurring at Balwyn High.

Make sure to look out for House Chess this term with Years 11-12 competing in Week 3, Years 9-10 in Week 4 and finally Years 7-8 in Week 5 at the Urwin Centre.
