BGS Snowsports Report

Firstly, I would like to say well done to the whole BGS Snowsports team, who participated so well in competition at Mt Buller throughout this past week.  Brighton Grammar was able to field competitors across more events than ever before, which is a huge achievement in itself.

Conditions for the week varied greatly from clear and sunny, to blizzard on the Monday for Junior School boys, with some events moved. Snow conditions also delivered a range of challenges for competitors, ranging from firm and icy, to soft and slow, sometimes on the same run.

Throughout the course of the competition week, we had a number of standout team performances.  A highlight was our Junior School team, achieving an amazing result of ranking third across the Boys Primary Schools competition. BGS also ranked seventh in the Boys Secondary Schools division.  Brighton Grammar had some great individual results, of which the following boys qualified for the Nationals in Perisher next week:

Division 4 Giant Slalom Team Gold: Toby Jones, Max Mailing, Jack Rehder, Harrison Charlton
Division 4 Ski Cross Team Gold: Toby Jones, Max Mailing, Harrison Charlton
Division 2 Slopestyle Ski Team Gold: Leonardo Grollo, Roman Abelseth
Division 4 Giant Slalom and Ski Cross both Individual Gold: Toby Jones
Division 2 Slopestyle Ski Individual Gold: Leonardo Grollo
Division 1 Slopestyle Ski Gold and Moguls Bronze: Max Nannes
Division 4 Snowboard Cross Bronze: Gus Murray
Nationals Qualification: Hudson Hallinan, Beau Rehder, Jake Charlton, Finn Atkins

I would like to thank co-Captains, Jackson Court and Alex Rico, for providing both strong performances and leadership. Similarly, my congratulations and thanks go to the Junior School and Urwin Centre Leaders Harry Eyers and Flynn Quill.

The whole BGS Snowsports team’s appreciation goes to the Teachers-in-charge, Mr Steed and Ms Van Dijk, who worked tirelessly and were out on the course helping and encouraging the boys in all conditions.  A special thanks goes to Belinda Jones (President), Troy Gendala and the whole BGS Snowsports Committee, who did a fantastic job of coordinating BGS’s participation across the full week of competition.  Everyone’s final thanks go to all of the parents, for supporting and encouraging their sons to participate in a fantastic week of Snowsports.
