Chinese Debating

The BGS Chinese Debating team is participating again in the Victorian High Schools Chinese Debating Championships.

Brighton Grammar won a Bronze medal in 2021. This year’s team consists of Dan Zheng (Year 10), July Yin (Year 10), Jerry Zheng (Year 10) and Jacky Kong (Year 11), with research assistance from Max Sun (Year 11) and Jack Pan (Year 11).

Andy Cheng (Year 11) reports on the team’s progress below:

The annual Victorian High Schools Chinese Debating Championships have once again begun. On Sunday, the BGS Chinese Debating team competed against Camberwell Girls’ Grammar and won by phenomenal colours, with countless efforts and time by the research team.

After establishing a good start to the first debate,  the team is working hard on their next debate against Camberwell High School, last year’s champions.

The boys are so industrious, giving them a better chance of being awarded champions than any other year. Here are a few words from the team:

Dan Zheng: ‘Job’s not finished. Job finished? I don’t think so.’ – Kobe Bryant

Jerry Zheng: ‘Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.’

July Yin: ‘How can the daylight know the darkness of the night.’- Nietzsche
