Climbing the Mountain of Year 12

Welcoming challenge head on

Big Fella

Before the start of Term 1, the Year 12s embarked upon Big Fella Camp, to take on the challenge of hiking Mount Feathertop, one of the tallest mountains in Victoria, as a metaphor for the year to come.

Gathering together as a cohort to climb the mountain (and to see the wonderful view at the top), has inspired a collective mindset of energy and determination in us all, to climb the mountain that is Year 12.

With performances, from our talented peers (and a surprise harmonica performance from Dr Swann!), House connection opportunities, and the landing of our 2025 Legacy Project, Big Fella truly did live up to its remarkable reputation that has been passed down from those before us; how great it was to hit the ground running on the first day of our final year at Brighton Grammar.

In the wake of the incredible successes of 2024, it is tempting to sit back and assume that these successes will continue naturally into 2025. They will not. Let us be prepared to work for it.

Legacy Project 2025

The landing of our Legacy Project – Honour, Celebrate, Embrace – has enabled us to initiate a strategy to maintain a drive for high performance throughout the year.

In Term 1, we strive to Honour the History of the School, paying tribute to those who came before us and their achievements, as inspiration for what we could achieve this year.

Then, in Term 2, we look to actively Celebrate the Moment that we have together, by spotlighting the excellence of those around us, which could only be achieved by challenging oneself extraordinarily.

Ultimately, in Term 3, we seek to Embrace the Future of the School and of ourselves, by setting ambitious goals to pursue better things.

Underpinning all three aspects of our project is the notion of challenge. To continue success in 2025, we must welcome challenge head on, and the 22 kilometre hike up and down Mount Feathertop at Big Fella has certainly inspired a determination in us all to tackle the year ahead, with one conquered challenge already under our belts.
