Gary Minihan (OB 1979)
The Club is named for Gary Minihan, an Old Brighton Grammarian, BGS Hall of Famer and Australian Olympian. Gary represented Australia in the 400m and 4×400m relay at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, where the relay team finished fourth in the Australian-record time of 2:59.70 – an Australian record that stood for 42 years. His athletics story began at BGS, making him an inspiring connection for the next generation of athletes.
Background
The Minihan Club supports the BGS Athletics program through community, encouragement and appropriate practical help. The Club complements the School’s program and has no role in coaching or selection.
Activities
The Club will help welcome families, celebrate Athletics achievements, support events and activities, and explore practical ways to strengthen the Athletics community with the School.
An inaugural gathering is planned for Saturday 10 October.
The Minihan Club aims to
- To raise the profile of athletics at Brighton Grammar School and within the wider community.
- To enrich the Athletics experience for boys at Brighton Grammar.
- To provide an opportunity for parents and Old Boys to participate in the Athletics community at the School.
Parents of boys in any year level are welcome. The BGS Athletics Supporters WhatsApp group is the easiest way to receive updates and express interest in helping.
Volunteer induction
All volunteers will need to complete the School’s online volunteer induction. Portal details will be provided by the School.
