Secondary School Distance Learning

Here you will find information about the distance learning approach the School has implemented to support Teaching and Learning. The support of our parents and families will be crucial in assisting our students to navigate the online platforms, which will enable ongoing curriculum delivery.

Return to School

This site provides parents with the information they need on the return to school program for students at BGS.

Timetable

Every boy will have a new timetable for Distance Learning, including a mix of synchronous (direct online instruction) and asynchronous (working offline) learning.

What will the boys be wearing?

In line with our Effective Learner Model and being ‘ready to learn’, we expect the boys to wear their sports uniform during the school day.

Any questions?

Teachers will be available to respond to any questions or concerns during school hours (8.00am – 4.00pm Monday to Friday).
If you have any pastoral concerns, please call the Pastoral Desk on 8591 2269.

Secondary School resources

Please find below the Secondary School checklist in English and Chinese for your reference. This checklist will ensure your home is ready for the online learning we will deliver from next week.

A guide is also available on BGS Distance Learning and how you can effectively learn from home.

A note on the benefits of routine to help you organise yourself

Consent2Go request

It is also essential that you respond to the request from Consent2Go in order to enable ongoing remote curriculum delivery. Please contact us if you have not received this.

Distance Learning Tips for Parents

Year 7-12 Students

  • Boys will start the school day at 8.15am, joining their pastoral group via Zoom
  • Boys should check ‘The Oak’ for daily news items and co-curricular information via the Hub
  • A new Distance Learning Term 2 timetable will be completed by all students (available 5pm Wednesday 15 April)
  • Classes may include: video instruction, textbook work, other materials, quizzes, links

Online tools and expectations

Secondary School boys are already familiar with using these tools to enhance their learning. They will also be told what to expect during Tutor Group, and experience some practice lessons.

VCE Students

  • We understand that VCE is a stressful time and an event like this adds to that stress. VCE students remain our top priority during this time
  • View the latest Crowther Centre 5 minute parent video update for students doing Unit 3 and 4
  • All Year 12 students will receive the additional support of a weekly 1:1 coaching conversation with his Tutor
  • In accordance with VCAA guidelines, no student will be disadvantaged and we will continue to liaise with VCAA to ensure this
  • The current SAC calendar will likely change. Teachers will confirm new dates for assessment shortly if these will change.  No SAC’s will be occurring in the first two weeks of Term 2
