House Choral Festival

At the annual House Choral Festival at St Andrew’s Church, the talent of students and the standard of competition was stepped up this year.

Congratulations to all the boys, student conductors, House Captains, Heads of House, operations, maintenance and other staff for their enthusiastic participation in this exciting event. As usual, it was a lot of fun and we saw an immense amount of musical and vocal talent on display.

Guest adjudicator, Marianne Rigby, gave outstanding feedback to all Houses to take into next year’s competition. She especially enjoyed the enthusiasm of all Houses but reminded us to,  never sing louder than beautiful. This sentiment was no doubt instrumental in her final judging.

In a very close finish with only one point separating first and second place, the final results were:

  • Winners of the Rodney Ford House Choral Shield – first place with 78 points – Dixon House
  • Second place with 77 points – Rofe House
  • Sharing equal third place with 75 points – Hancock and School Houses
  • Fifth place with 70 points – Armstrong House
  • Sixth place with 60 points – Crowther House

Congratulations to Music Captain Oscar Sloan who was MC and also won the prize for Outstanding Student Conductor, with special commendations to Jenson Galvin and Julius Ferwerda for their conducting technique.

Outstanding House Spirit Award, chosen by all Heads of House, went to Ben Fox for his amazing leadership of Armstrong house.

We are grateful to Friends of Music for providing the JB HiFi voucher prizes. Last, but not least, a huge thank you to Hayley Blakiston for her co-ordination of the entire event.
