India Expedition
Challenge, culture and discoveryBack on home soil, a group of Secondary School students and staff recently returned from an unforgettable journey through the Indian Himalayas and northern India.
Over five days, they trekked 40km through the Indian Himalayas, climbing more than 3,500 metres and testing themselves in some challenging conditions.
The trip concluded in Agra, where they visited the iconic Taj Mahal before heading home.
Year 10 student Augie reports:
Over the September holidays, a group of Years 9 and 10 students travelled to India for an unforgettable and immersive experience, trekking through the Indian Himalayas as well as exploring New Delhi, McLeod Ganj, and Agra.
Our adventure began as we explored the monuments and streets of New Delhi. We then bundled ourselves onto an overnight train heading north towards landscapes of mountains, rivers and trees.
We stopped in at McLeod Ganj after a long journey and experienced the Tibetan culture, markets and Buddhist monasteries, before heading off toward Kareri Lake. Throughout the trek we were immersed in the nature and animals of the Himalayas and met many incredible people along the way.
A trip highlight was the hike to Minkiani Pass, at 3500m, up in the clouds. Arriving back in McLeod Ganj, in Dharamshala, we got straight back to adventuring, visiting a tea field, the Tibetan institute, and the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium.
Finally, after another overnight train, we made our way to Agra. And of course, the views of the Taj Mahal in the evening and at sunrise were unforgettable. Playing with the Rugby ball with everyone and meeting the many dogs that followed us, including Petey, who stayed with us the whole way, made the trip even better.
A big thanks to Mr Ogilvie, Ms Sallis, and Ms Richards, who made this trip possible, as well as our guides and all the people from World Expeditions. Without them, we would never have experienced this.
