Japan Study Tour

Culture, History, and Cherry Blossoms

Ten Year 10 and Year 11 students recently returned from an incredible trip to Japan, packed with cultural experiences and language learning.

The group visited Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima, exploring famous temples, busy city streets, and peaceful gardens.

A highlight was a moving talk in Hiroshima from a survivor of the atomic bomb, who was only eight years old at the time.

Additional activities included an okonomiyaki cooking classes, a traditional dyeing workshop, sushi-making, and, of course, karaoke. Also, we were lucky enough to be in Japan while the cherry blossoms were blooming.

Students also enjoyed a homestay in a traditional countryside village, giving them a firsthand look at rural Japanese life and an opportunity to use their Japanese skills.

Throughout the trip, students were motivated to use their Japanese skills as much as possible.

Whether ordering food, asking for directions, or chatting with their host families, they were immersed in the Japanese language and all students improved in their ability and confidence.
