JS House Swimming

A buzz was certainly felt around the Junior school last week, as the boys prepared for the annual House Swimming carnivals.

Prep to Year 6 boys had completed their five week swimming program during Physical Education lessons, and were keen to show off their skills in a carnival environment. On Thursday, the Prep to Year 2 boys kicked off proceedings with House colours decking the corridors in the morning and many boys eager to represent their House in the pool.

Our motto in Physical Education encourages every boy to have a go and do their best, and the boys certainly didn’t disappoint. They each competed in freestyle, backstroke and a novelty noodle race with determination, persistence and great sportsmanship on show.

The encouragement from our swimming teachers in the water willed each boy to the wall and there were many smiling faces as the boys climbed out having achieved their goals.

On Friday the Year 3 and Year 4 boys took their turn in the pool. Races were conducted over 25m, with the Division 1 events staged over 50m. The races were hard-fought, with plenty of tight finishes and great encouragement from the pool deck. The exhaustion and exhilaration on the boy’s faces, as they touched the wall, showed just how much effort went into each race.

After recess it was the Year 5 and 6 boys who had their chance to represent their House and, after listening to the cheers coming from the pool in the morning, they were eager to strut their stuff! Our leaders of the Junior School certainly put on a display of the BGS Way, setting the standards with sportsmanship, competitiveness and having a go, with behavior and performance both features of the carnival.

Across all three carnivals, our Houses were led by our newly appointed House Captains, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with their leadership, engagement and willingness to help both teachers and boys over the two days. Well done Marlow, Max, John, Spencer, Tom and Harper.

Congratulations to Hancock House on being crowned the 2022 BGS House Swimming Champions and to our Year Level Champions and Encouragement award winners.
