The Jeyakumar Scholarship will be awarded to a boy of fine character with strong sporting and academic ability who can demonstrate an enthusiasm to attend Brighton Grammar School and benefit from the opportunities that a Brighton Grammar School education would present.

What is the Jeyakumar Scholarship?

The Jeyakumar Scholarship was established in 2020 by an Old Boy who himself was a scholarship recipient and now wishes to provide this means-tested scholarship for a boy to experience similar opportunities that the donor experienced whilst at BGS.

Are you eligible to apply?

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A boy currently in Year 6 or above who will enter BGS in Year 7 or above in Term One 2024.
  • A boy without the financial means to attend the School.
  • This scholarship is not open to boys who are currently attending the School.
  • Boys of single parents are encouraged to apply.

Criteria

The recipient will be a boy of fine character who can demonstrate his willingness to embrace the spirit and culture of BGS, and who will benefit from a BGS education.

The selection process will include:

  • Interview
  • School reports
  • Demonstration of participation in and contribution to the community
  • Means (the scholarship is means-tested, with parents’ financial disclosure being required at shortlist stage).

Value

This scholarship is at the discretion of the Headmaster and remission of fees is generally between 90% to 95%. The Jeyakumar Scholarship does not cover:

  • The cost of books, stationery or uniforms
  • Consolidated charges
  • Discretionary charges such as overseas trips.

Duration 

Jeyakumar Scholarship holders are expected to complete their secondary education at BGS.

Special conditions

Jeyakumar Scholarship holders are expected to:

  • Maintain a high standard of academic effort
  • Contribute positively and enthusiastically to school life. 

Progress and contribution to school life are reviewed annually.           

A Scholarship may be withdrawn if the Headmaster is not satisfied with the diligence or conduct of the holder. Failure to pay fees may also lead to withdrawal. The School reserves the right not to award any or all of the scholarships available. No boy may hold more than one scholarship.
