National Rowers
A small group from the Skelton Club travelled to Perth to compete at the National Rowing Championships last week.
The boys raced in two divisions, the U198+ and the U178+.
With the U198+ racing earlier in the week, the boys put their best foot forward and were able to race their way into the semi-final of this event, normally entered by school 1st VIIIs, which is a great achievement.
Brighton Grammar were the only Y10 crew to progress to the semi-finals.
The boys then turned their attention to the U178+ which was a hotly contested event all week. The final race on the Sunday was a fantastic race, with the boys positioned 3rd through the first 1000m. Unfortunately, they were not able to hold on to a podium position and finished a very respectable 5th overall.
The overriding sense from all staff and students was that it was an exceptional experience both in an educational and sporting context.
We look forward to seeing all these boys moving up into the Cooper Club for season 2023/24.
Go Tonners!
