Basketball
The 1st Basketball boys had an impressive win against Melbourne Grammar over the weekend. Their hard work throughout the season was evident, with great team defense and selfless ball movement leading to an all-around victory. This season they have won a total of five games, and with two games remaining, the squad is determined to finish strong and keep build momentum heading into the next season.

Football
The 1st XVIII Football boys headed out to Wesley Glen Waverley to take on the winless Wesley College. In trying conditions due to the breeze, our boys battled hard, while struggling with execution across the field. It was close until the final term until we were able to run away with a strong 37-point win. This places us seven wins, two losses and a draw going into our final game in two-weeks’ time verse MGS.

Hockey
BGS 1st Hockey XI came out on top against Xavier in an enthralling, season-defining match. Following a period riddled with injuries and close games, our boys have made recent history by winning our first game since 2019. Re-energised after a mid-season camp and the return of our vice-captain, Lucas Gray, enthusiasm, and prospects were at an all-time high leading into the weekend. The game itself was an absolute nail-biter, with BGS conceding two goals early on. However, Pierre Giggins’ (Y11) goal late in the second quarter, bought newfound hope into the team, sparking fierce determination that powered us into the second half. We held majority possession throughout the second half, with young gun Ollie Elliot (Y10) scoring two riveting goals during both quarters to set us up for a 3-2 win, reverse sweeping the 5th-placed Xavier.

Despite drawing to Caulfield earlier in the season, this long-awaited yet deserving win truly rewarded all the players and families supporting the team, as well as the coaching staff for all the hard work that has been put in through numerous training and video reviews each week. The upcoming two rounds against Haileybury and Caulfield provide us a great opportunity to finalise our position further up the ladder with the promising performance shown on the weekend. BGS Hockey continues to cultivate its depth of talent and players are keen to make their mark in the APS competition in the coming years, in combination with more opportunities through camps to further strengthen intra-team connections, the future of BGS Hockey looks very bright and hopeful.

This match will be remembered as a testament to the spirit of rugby, as both BGS and SKC left it all out on the field in a true display of passion and sportsmanship.
