Secondary School Strings

Lower String Soiree

It has been a wonderful term for our Secondary School string students, with talented performers from Years 7 to 10 presenting impressive solo works at the Lower String Soiree. The diverse repertoire — from classical to film and contemporary — reflects their varied musical journeys.

Alexander Lew (Year 7) charmed audiences with a performance of Williams’ beloved Hedwig’s Theme, while Ryan Qiu tackled the technically demanding Prelude from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 3 with confidence and poise.

Year 8 student Quinn Wang delivered a standout performance of Paganini’s Caprice — a challenging work that demands both technical precision and musical expression, and one Quinn handled with considerable maturity.

Three Year 9 students also performed to a high standard at the Soiree. Andrew Lew offered a spirited take on the traditional Yankee Doodle, Tobias Knaack performed the hauntingly beautiful Fantasia on Greensleeves arranged by Forbes, and Kris Xu moved the audience with a sensitive rendition of Saint-Saëns’ famous Swan from The Carnival of the Animals.

Rounding out the program, Joey Williams (Year 10) performed Rabbath’s Petite Étude Rhythmique No. 5, a sophisticated and rhythmically intricate piece that brought the evening to an impressive close. Well done to Joey and to all our Secondary string performers.
