To mark National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June), BGS held a special Chapel service today and on Saturday we host Geelong Grammar on the Crowther Oval for the APS Sport Football Indigenous Round.

Through the Dalziel Club, BGS footballers from Years 7 – 12 have been given a special training jersey this year. On one side, the jerseys have a red version of the 1st XVIII’s Indigenous jersey design, and on the reverse fluro training side, all boys will wear the iconic #17.

Number 17 belonged to Ben Furzer (OB 2001), a member of the 1st XVIII from 1999-2001 before being tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident in October 2002. Every year, the number is worn by a 1st XVIII player, voted by his peers who demonstrates courage, passion and teamwork.

With this special jersey, it hoped all boys in the football program will be inspired in their training and daily lives by the spirit of this special number.
