Students shine at music camp

Every year, around February, our students head off to the annual music camp at Rutherford Park Country Retreat in Blampied.

This year, 99 students from six music groups (including Intermediate Big Band, Senior Big Band, Corelli String Orchestra, Secondary String Orchestra and Ten Tonners) gave up their Sunday and Monday to prepare for upcoming concerts. Working tirelessly in rehearsals, all of the young musicians are determined to achieve the best in the upcoming performances.

What I like about the camp is how you get to spend more time with your friends and how you just seem to connect with Mother Nature in this quiet yet isolated part of Victoria. The scenery there was amazing! You can see distant mountains and farms, along with the horses wandering around the farm nearby.

The fresh air, gentle breeze and distant plains created a connection with nature as I played my Bach piece (Prelude from Suite in G major BMV 1007) in the natural environment while I was having free time. As a viola player, I look forward to the Chapel performance with my string quartet, bringing a hopeful tone to the church.

Special thanks to the music teachers, who gave up their time to guide us for the upcoming concerts and Father Waterhouse, Ms McCormac and Ms Norris for helping us during the camp.
