Theatre Sports Champions!

On Saturday 11 August, Brighton Grammar teamed up with Firbank Grammar to enter a ‘Theatre Sports’ improvisation competition. We had two Firbank teams in the intermediate and two mixed Brighton/Firbank teams in the senior category. After some fantastic efforts from student at both schools, we took home 1st place in both the intermediate and senior categories. This was a fantastic achievement for the kids and further strengthens the bonds between the students of both schools

As an aspiring actor participating in Theatre Sports gave me a lifetime of experience when it comes to improvisation. We were against 7 different teams of which all were very talented and just as competitive with a desire to have fun and get the best out of the night. We played 3 games, one of 1 minute, another of 2 minutes and one of 3 minutes. Our first game of mime gave us a rough start as we began unexpectedly and weren’t sure of what to do, but as we went onto our second game our skills further developed and we started performing to the best of our ability, being the first team to gain a 5 out of 5. As the night progressed, the fear of performing was diminished as each team became more comfortable with each other, resulting in our team not only performing in our own skits but participating in others when characters were needed. As we approached our last game of 3 minutes we played the game type writer, this game resulted in our team gaining a 5 and us finishing the competition feeling confident that we could win. And sure enough, we did. The competition was a remarkable experience and I cannot express how proud I am of my team for winning along with enhancing our skills in improvisation.
