US Basketball Tour

The USA Basketball Tour to Texas was by far the best experience that I have had the opportunity to partake in at BGS.

The trip not only provided once in a lifetime experiences – including watching the NBA, NFL, NHL, and College Basketball games – but also a more realistic insight into what both college and high school are like in the USA.

Over the course of the two-week trip, we toured three Colleges – SMU, Baylor and the University of Texas – and multiple high schools in which we played games against their varsity teams.

The opportunity to play against these schools was not only great fun but also showcased the stark differences between Basketball in Australia and America. In terms of success whilst on the trip, the First Basketball team went undefeated in the Red River tournament and only lost on a visit to Marlin High School in the final game of the trip.

We also visited many Texas BBQs and experienced their strong culture at the Fort Worth stockyards. Visits to both the Alamo and Houston Space Centre also provided well needed breaks between the copious amounts of Basketball we played.

Overall, I had a great time on the tour and strongly recommend this to anyone in the Basketball program at BGS.

I hope that this is just the start of many great things to come for the program as we continue to strive for the elusive APS premiership.
