Effective communication is fundamental to a successful life.

We navigate our lives through conversations with peers, parents, teachers, and even our own inner monologues. As we enter an era where many human skills are being automated, it is increasingly vital for our boys to master communication to thrive in work and life.

At Brighton Grammar, a school dedicated to boys, we recognise the importance of embedding healthy communication in all interactions and nurturing it through our culture.

Our coaching program is a key component in this effort. Here, students learn and practice essential skills like paraphrasing and active listening. These lessons are reinforced through interactions with staff, peer-to-peer coaching and sessions where younger boys from Junior School engage with Secondary School boys each term— a highlight that our students eagerly anticipate.

For more information about our coaching program, please contact us at the Crowther Centre.

Forging cross-campus connections

Recently, half of the Year 10 cohort participated in a Better Conversations unit in their HWPE classes.

The boys built their questioning techniques, listening skills and acquired some fundamental coaching skills.  Over four weeks, the older students met with the four Year 5 classes and coached the boys around their academic and sporting goals.

A great time was had by all, and positive connections were built between the two groups.  The other Year 10 students will undertake this unit during Semester 2.

Take a glimpse into the experience.

Safe Partying – What Parents Need to Know

When our children start to go to more ‘grown up’ parties, many parents feel a little worried. While we want our children to socialise, have fun and make good decisions and remain safe when at a party situation.

It is common for parents to feel unsure about what they can do to support their children. Being aware of the potential risks, educating yourself around the laws regarding alcohol and drugs, and the impact these can have on the developing teenage brain and body, can enable better communication with your teenager.

On Wednesday 31 July from 7.00 – 8.00pm, we invite you to join Kristen Molloy from The Crowther Centre as well as Ingrid Howren, our Health and Human Development Coordinator, for some practical strategies to help your teenager maximise his enjoyment, manage his behaviour and keep himself safe.

While this webinar is aimed at parents of Secondary School boys, all are welcome.
