Deputy Headmaster, Head of the Crowther CentreOutdoor Education experiences offer our boys unique opportunities for learning. In particular, these adventures help boys to build resilience by increasing the perceived risks that they are exposed to and then supporting them to respond to those challenges.
As you will hear from these Year 6 boys who recently returned from Camp Coolamatong, they appreciated the chance to learn and practise new skills, along with a renewed sense of gratitude for creature comforts of home!
As always, if there is anything specific you’d love to hear more about, please reach out to the Crowther team.

International Teacher Training
On 7 May, a group of aspiring educators gathered at the Soho Hotel in Auckland for a professional learning event led by Brighton Grammar’s own, Dr Mark Dowley.
The session formed part of an intensive training program designed to prepare participants for school-based teaching roles. Dr Dowley, known for his practical approach to teacher development, shared insights on effective classroom practice and the science of learning.
Also present was David Ferguson, former Principal of Westlake Boys High School, who now leads The Teachers’ Institute.
After 15 years at the helm of one of New Zealand’s largest boys’ schools, Ferguson is focused on supporting the next generation of teachers through high-quality, in-school training pathways.
The Crowther Centre is proud to work with The Teachers’ Institute, and this represents the beginning of a growing movement to strengthen teacher preparation across New Zealand.
Parent Webinar: Supporting Healthy Relationships
When: Wednesday 4 June, 7.00-7.45pm
Who: Secondary School Parents
Where: Online
Consensual, mutually respectful, loving relationships are central to a happy and fulfilled life. However, many of our boys are being exposed to concerning messages online -through popular social media masculine influencers and the widespread availability of online pornography. These sources often promote distorted and harmful views about gender, power, and relationships.
We need to talk to our boys about what they’re experiencing online. This webinar aims to give you clear, research-based insights into the content your sons may be encountering, along with practical strategies for having meaningful conversations to challenge negative stereotypes and foster respect for themselves and others.
