Ross Featherston
Headmaster, Brighton Grammar SchoolI enjoyed watching the recent Paris Olympics, cheering on our most successful Australian Olympic team ever, and now the Paralympics where again our Australian athletes are having great sporting success.
Alongside these medal-winning performances are also stories of fair play, sportsmanship and achieving your personal best.
I touched on these themes at our recent whole School celebration when we came together to honour our high-performing premiership winning First XVIII Football and First XV Rugby teams.
Common to these successful teams, both at BGS and the Olympics, is the focus on planning and following process and the faith that it will lead to strong results, a willingness to show resilience when faced with setbacks, prioritising the team over the individual, and a commitment to win with humility.
These qualities are relevant to all our students in the academic and co-curricular fields, but especially so for our VCE students as they ramp up preparations for their end of year examinations, commencing in October.
We encourage our students to show kindness and respect for others, to be true to themselves, follow their passions, take on challenges and be humble in victory.
I am proud that our boys model these qualities with their peers across the school.
Have a good week.

Deputy Headmaster, Head of Junior SchoolOur ELC – Year 6 boys have enjoyed the opportunity to host their dads in the classroom over the last two weeks.
Lots of fun and learning took place through a variety of activities; African drumming, shape challenges, spelling tools to spelling words, building boats with paddlepop sticks, creating an ocean artwork, subtraction facts races, reading, Blooket quiz, crosswords, straw rockets, mini interviews and group quizzes.
These activities have given our dads and special friends a window of opportunity to not only witness but also engage in the learning journey with our boys. Thank you to all dads, special friends, staff and boys for your support and engagement.
Music has certainly been a focus and highlight for us all in recent weeks. It is such a rewarding experience to see our boys shine, and they do so regularly.
I know as staff and parents we are so often filled with pride and admiration for the boys of Wilson House, this is certainly the case with those who have performed in Choral, Strings and Concert Band Journey Concerts. Congratulations to all boys involved and thank you to our Music staff. We look forward to our Year 6s performances of Finding Nemo Jr next week.

Amelia Barrow
Director of the Early Learning CentreAs we know, getting outdoors and being active is a vital component of creating good habits for a healthy life. Within our daily programs we ensure to provide the boys with a variety of physical activities through structured and unstructured play.
The benefits are plentiful as being active builds strong bones and muscles; improves balance, movement and coordination skills; promotes mental, emotional and social wellbeing; and increases the boys’ thinking and learning skills.
The Department of Health recommends for 3-5 year olds to be active at least three hours throughout each day and we know how much our boys love it!
Our ELC4 boys loved welcoming our Firbank Grammar friends to reunite after last term’s visit to their ELC. The boys were very respectful of sharing their learning environment and showing the girls around the classroom and playground.
Next week we look forward to our ELC3 boys heading over to visit the girls and spend time in their ELC. We thank parents for their support in volunteering to help for the morning and look forward to all the stories upon return.
We also look forward to watching the dress rehearsal school production on Finding Nemo Jr on Wednesday 11 September which we know the boys will love and thank the students and staff for including us in this wonderful event.
Parenting Tips
Respectful Relationships
Fostering a nurturing environment of respectful relationships within your family holds the key to not only harmonious living, but also improved academic outcomes for your children.
As parents and caregivers, embracing the art of teaching children about respect at a young age sets the stage for a lifetime of healthy interactions and empathetic understanding. It will help cultivate a positive environment where communication flourishes, conflicts are resolved constructively, and bonds are fortified.
