Year 7 Peninsula Program
A week of hiking, obstacle courses and giant swingsDay 1
We started our journey on Boneo Road, where we unpacked and made sure we had everything. We met our outdoor ed staff (Rowan and Harley), ate lunch, and then set off on an epic hike. Two hours later, we collapsed at our new campsite. After a break, we rushed to the pickup spot, where our supplies were. On the way there, a surprise greeted us. A snake! We quickly stepped back and went to get our things. We set up our tents, ate rice noodles with veggies and chicken, and went to sleep.
Day 2
When we woke up, we smashed down some brekkie and went out to hike. After a tiring hike, we arrived at our campsite and made lunch. I volunteered to be sous chef and chopped up some veggies while my team was setting up tents. After a delicious lunch, we had an aboriginal session where we got to throw boomerangs! It was getting late, so we all ate chocolate ripple cake and went to sleep.
Day 3
When we woke up, we did the usual and said goodbye to the camp staff. We walked along the road to our cabins. When we got there, the staff gave us a quick introduction and we immediately set up for the rock-climbing walls. It was super scary, but the bit where you rappel down was super fun. We then went to the zipline, where Rupert and I scored a ball into a bucket while moving on the zipline! We then had a damper session, where we cooked a piece of dough on a stick, and ate it with butter and jam. Yum yum! After that, we chilled and eventually slept.
Day 4
This morning, we woke up and went surfing! It was awesome, and I caught lots of good waves. Then we had hut building and THE GIANT SWING. The giant swing was an 18-metre-tall structure where the team would pull you up and drop you. It was super scary, yet fun at the same time.
Day 5
On the last day of camp, we quickly smashed down some toast and went to the low ropes area. We had to traverse a bunch of roped obstacles. It was hard, but fun. The staff then had a talk with all of us, and we got on the bus and went home.
