Year 7 Program – Week 1

Last week, Year 7 Dunsby Tutor groups braved the rain to embark on an unforgettable adventure at Point Leo for their camp. Despite the bad weather, the students had a fantastic time immersing themselves in a variety of challenging activities that helped them form new friendships, develop important life skills, and test their limits.

The theme for our camp was “connection,” and one of the most rewarding aspects was the opportunity for students to make new friends and strengthen old ones. The atmosphere was friendly and encouraging, and it was heart-warming to see our students come together and support one another through the week’s activities.

We took advantage of our beautiful coastal location by going on beach walks and rock pooling, allowing the students to connect with nature and appreciate their surroundings. They also had the opportunity to connect to our Aboriginal culture in a session run by our local Elder, Steve, who led them in throwing boomerangs, playing the didgeridoo, and welcoming them with a smoking ceremony.

During the camp, students participated in a variety of exciting activities such as surfing, hiking, cooking meals on trangias, and setting up tents. These activities were created specifically to foster teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities, as well as a sense of independence and resilience.

Our Year 7 students demonstrated outstanding behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the camp. They proudly represented our school and demonstrated that when given the opportunity, they are capable of great things.
