Colin Neave AM
Colin Neave AM is a distinguished figure known for his remarkable contributions to law, public administration, and dispute resolution. His journey of excellence began after graduating from BGS in 1961 when he completed a law degree from The University of Melbourne. From 1967, Colin dedicated himself to the legal profession, practising as a solicitor for the next 15 years.
His career path later led him to take on roles with Toyota and as a public servant in various states and territories across Australia. Colin’s breadth of experience and expertise in the field of public administration became evident when he was appointed as the Banking Ombudsman in 1996. Serving as the Chief Ombudsman for the Financial Ombudsman Service, he played a pivotal role in resolving disputes within the banking and finance industry. His exceptional contributions to public administration and dispute resolution were recognised, leading to his appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia.
In 2012, Colin was appointed as the Commonwealth Ombudsman, a significant position he held for five years. His dedication to upholding fairness and ensuring transparency in administrative processes further solidified his reputation as a trusted and respected figure in the field. After his tenure as Commonwealth Ombudsman, Colin’s expertise was sought after, and he was appointed as the Fairness Advisor for the ANZ, where he continued to make valuable contributions.
Beyond his professional achievements, Colin has also been an influential figure in various organisations, serving as the Chair of St Michael’s School, the Canberra Street Theatre, and the Jan Pentland Foundation. Notably, he continues to head the Jan Pentland Foundation, a testament to his ongoing commitment to philanthropy and community service.
