A shared language for learning
The Effective Learner Model in actionAt Brighton Grammar, the work of the Crowther Centre continues to be guided by our Effective Learner Model, which provides a shared language for how boys learn best. The model recognises that learning is a change in long‑term memory and that knowledge precedes skill and application.
Across learning dispositions, learning design, learning processes and learning culture, we focus on helping boys develop the habits and behaviours that enable them to think deeply, apply knowledge purposefully and engage with increasing independence as learners.
Importantly, the Effective Learner Model also reminds us that high performance is not accidental. Through explicit teaching, thoughtful curriculum design and a learning culture that values curiosity, effort and reflection, boys are supported to take ownership of their learning.
This work sits at the heart of the Crowther Centre’s mission: to ensure that academic success is durable, transferable and connected to the broader personal growth of each boy.
