Dance

When you get the chance to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance!

Why dance for boys?

Focusing on a different style each term, students learn how to express themselves creatively through movement and develop their skills in dance.

Dance can help students to develop:

  • Focus and work ethic
  • Physical health benefits
  • Coordination, strength & agility
  • Creativity and self-expression
  • Confidence and self esteem
  • Skill development for performance
  • Team building & collaboration
  • Finding a sense of purpose and belonging

When art meets athletics, you create a superhuman

What’s on offer?

Dance is a subject as a part of the Drama and Health and PE curriculum for students from Prep to Year 8.

In co-curricular, Junior School Year 3-4 students can take up dance classes during lunch times with a performance at the end of each term. Year 5-6 students can join after school weekly dance sessions as an elective for their APS sport.

The co-curricular program in the Secondary School includes lunchtime and after school classes for Year 7-8 and Year 9-12 Troupes. This will take the place of one of their APS sport selections.

If you've got it, flaunt it!

There are various performance opportunities for students to showcase their hard work.

Focusing on a different style each term, students have the chance to perform in a dance showcase each semester.

Showcases are an opportunity for Dance students to perform for parents and the community.

Competitions, sport and more

Dance offered as a winter sport

We’ve recently launched Dance as a new addition to our winter sports! Within this program, boys develop acrobatic skills and learn other technical aspects of dance. Students will also participate in regular Strength & Conditioning sessions to support their dance development.

In the near future dancers and performance teams will compete at dance competitions.

As a growing program at BGS. We’re looking to have Dance as an elective in Years 9-10, and to develop Dance as a VCE or VET course.
