The Ashanti-Ianthe Scholarship
The Ashanti-Ianthe Scholarship will be awarded to a boy who has demonstrated a passion for basketball and creating a positive impact in their community.

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate that he would benefit from the opportunities that a Brighton Grammar School education would present and would not have the opportunity to attend the School under normal circumstances.

Complete and attach the completed PDF application form, NAPLAN results, school report, reference and supporting documents and written piece via email as PDFs, with a maximum of five attachments.

Are you eligible to apply?

Applicants for this scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • A boy currently in Year 10 (in 2025) to enter BGS in Year 11 (in 2026) 
  • A boy without the financial means to attend the School.

Scholarships may only be awarded to students who are permanent residents or citizens of Australia.

This scholarship is not open to boys who are currently attending the School.

Criteria

Selection will be based on a boy being a talented basketball player and of good character who can demonstrate he will embrace the spirit and culture of BGS and benefit from a BGS education taking into account:

  • Basketball ability
  • Interview
  • School reports
  • Submission of a written piece of work outlining how the applicant perceives a Brighton Grammar
    School education will assist them to further their interests
  • Demonstration of participation in and contribution to the community
  • Means (the scholarship is means-tested, with parents’ financial disclosure being required at shortlist stage).

Value

All scholarships are at the discretion of the Headmaster and cover a percentage of the tuition fees. The Ashanti-Ianthe Scholarship usually does not cover:

  • The cost of books, stationery or uniforms
  • Consolidated charges
  • Discretionary charges such as overseas trips.

Duration

The Ashanti-Ianthe Scholarship holders are expected to complete their secondary education at BGS.

Special conditions

The Ashanti-Ianthe Scholarship holders are expected to:

  • Participate fully in the school basketball program.
  • Maintain a sound standard of academic achievement.
  • Contribute positively and enthusiastically to school life.

Progress and contribution to school life are reviewed annually. 

A Scholarship may be withdrawn if the Headmaster is not satisfied with the diligence or conduct of the holder. 

The School reserves the right not to award any or all of the scholarships available.

No boy may hold more than one scholarship.
