Colin Heseltine, an accomplished and distinguished individual, has left an indelible mark in the fields of diplomacy, international relations, and academia. His journey of excellence began during his time at Brighton Grammar School, where he attended from 1956 and achieved the remarkable honor of being crowned Dux in his final year of 1964. This early recognition foreshadowed a future filled with exceptional achievements.

After completing an Economics degree at Monash University, Heseltine wasted no time in embarking on a career with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Starting in 1969, his tenure with the department would span an impressive four decades. Throughout his career, Heseltine held various postings across Asia, providing him with invaluable insights and deep cultural understanding. Additionally, he served in senior policy advisory positions within Australia and represented his country in diplomatic capacities in Chile, Spain, and the United Nations General Assembly.

From 2001, Heseltine’s expertise and diplomatic acumen led him to assume the role of Australian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea. His tenure in this esteemed position solidified his reputation as a skilled diplomat and further enhanced bilateral relations between Australia and Korea. Following his ambassadorial responsibilities and directorship positions in Singapore, Heseltine officially retired from the Australian Government in 2008, concluding his remarkable career of service.

However, retirement did not slow down Heseltine’s passion for engagement and contribution. Since stepping away from his government role, he has actively continued his involvement in various capacities. He has served on the board of Sino Gas and Energy, contributed as Vice Chairman for the Australia Korea Business Council, and shared his wealth of knowledge and experience as an Adjunct Professor at RMIT University.

Colin Heseltine’s exceptional achievements and contributions have garnered him well-deserved recognition. In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, he was inducted into the BGS Hall of Fame, a testament to his enduring legacy and the significant impact he has made throughout his illustrious career.
