Deputy Headmaster, Head of the Crowther CentreThe Hidden Value of Doing Less
As we move through the school year, it’s easy for life to feel full. We are constantly navigating academic demands, co-curricular commitments, and busy family schedules. While this energy is important, so too is the opportunity to pause.
Most of us rarely stop to focus on rest and recovery, however, they play a vital role in healthy development and learning. Planned breaks, unstructured time with family and friends, and moments spent in nature all play a vital role in supporting our wellbeing. These experiences allow us to recharge physically, reset emotionally, and strengthen our sense of connection and balance.

Time away from routine also creates space for reflection and perspective. Whether it’s a walk in nature on a crisp winter’s day, spending time to create a shared meal, or simply a slower day, these moments help boys build resilience and strengthen connection – both key ingredients for long-term success.
As we look ahead to the holidays, we encourage families to value rest alongside activity. It is through this balance that boys return in Term 3 refreshed, ready to learn, and open to making the most of new opportunities.
With this in mind, we hope you have a terrific break and enjoy time with loved ones.
