It’s no small thing to be a part of the unfolding of the history of our school. In this, there are moments that powerfully capture our evolving spirit. Saturday’s premiership games formed a backdrop which saw our community come together to share, celebrate and acknowledge so much of what we are about.

Sport is a great teacher. Long before the first whistle blew, boys showed up early, in full academic uniform, to support their friends and teammates. Throughout the day, the grounds were transformed into a remarkable sea of navy and red, with students from ELC boys to Year 12 chantologists cheering passionately for every Tonner who donned a jersey.

What stood out was not only the commitment of our boys, but the extraordinary sense of community they created.  In an age where genuine connection matters more than ever, the sight of students choosing to spend their Saturday together, celebrating one another’s efforts and successes, was a powerful reminder of the importance of belonging. These experiences help shape wellbeing, identity and character in ways that extend far beyond the classroom. These experiences provide lasting touchstones of understanding.

While academics are the first among equals at our school, sport provides a powerful context for learning, where relationships are formed, traditions are strengthened, and our community flourishes. At a deeper level, these outcomes reflect what education is ultimately about.
