From Brighton Grammar Rowing comes an exciting rowing development program for Year 6-7 boys developed by the Rowing Director and Rowing Conditioning Coach.
The BGS+ Rowing: Introduction to Rowing program will develop technique over two levels, off the water and on. Participants will learn aspects of competitive secondary school rowing, learning single sculls and quad sculling techniques.
The program is capped at 16 participants per session.
Introduction to Rowing Program – Level 1 (Year 6-7 students only): 5 week program
The Introduction to Rowing – Level 1 program is based at Brighton Grammar’s Junior School Gym and aims to provide boys with technical instruction on the rowing machine in line with the BGS Rowing Technical Model designed by our Rowing Director.
Boys will also learn the Rowing Dynamic warm-up used by all school teams within the secondary school program, the four key movements/exercises for strength development in rowing and our core and flexibility program, all designed by our Rowing Conditioning Coach. The Level 1 program must be completed for participants to enrol in the Level 2 program.
Introduction to Rowing Program – Level 2 (Year 6-7 students only): 4 week program – commencing in Term 3
The Introduction to Rowing – Level 2 program takes place at the Brighton Grammar Rowing facility at Albert Park Lake. Boys will be transported by mini-bus to the lake at 3.30/3.45pm and return to BGS at 5.30/5.45pm. Boys must have completed the Introduction to Rowing Program – Level 1 and be competent swimmers to a minimum of 50m.
Students will learn sculling technique in single sculls (1 person per boat) and quad sculls (4 rowers per boat). The focus of this program is on safe entry and exit of the boat, static skills and balances, boat movement and crew rowing with timing.
This program runs in terms 2-3.

All Level 2 sessions are held on Albert Park lake. Year 6 Boys will be transported by mini-bus to the lake at 3.30pm and return to BGS at 5.30pm.
Year 7 Boys will be transported by mini-bus to the lake at 3.45pm and return to BGS at 5.45pm.
All Level 1 sessions are held in the Junior School Gym at Brighton Grammar School.

What should I wear/bring? (Level 1 participants)
Brighton Grammar School PE uniform. Boys can change after school if not in PE uniform on that day. Boys are also advised to bring a water bottle.
Where do I meet the bus? (Level 2 participants)
The pick up/drop off point is on New Street adjacent to the Mitchell Oval.
Can I pick up my son from Albert Park Lake? (Level 2 participants)
Yes, but please notify us of this on the enrolment form. Pick up time is 20 minutes prior to the advertised return time at BGS.
What should I wear/bring? (Level 2 participants)
Brighton Grammar School PE Uniform. Boys can change after school if not in PE uniform on that day. Boys are also advised to bring a water bottle and a towel.
Cancellation by the School
In circumstances where lessons are required to be cancelled by BGS, make-up lessons will be offered as a group for all individuals who were impacted by the cancellation.
Cancellation by the Family
Cancellations will be accepted within 7 days from the invoice issue date each term. Withdrawals outside of this timeframe incur an administration fee of $50.
